Yo’s Bio:
Yo Azama is an award-winning educator, author, and instructional leader dedicated to transforming teaching and learning through identity, integrity, and relational trust. Currently serving as the District Lead Instructional Coach for the Salinas Union High School District in California, Yo designs and facilitates professional learning for teachers, administrators, and instructional coaches—focusing on professional learning communities, world languages, global competence, and human-centered education.
As co-author of the COMPASS Japanese language series, Yo has influenced language education across the U.S., providing innovative, student-centered curriculum and resources. He has presented over 300 presentations and workshops at national and international conferences and has been recognized widely for his contributions to language education and teacher professional growth.
Yo’s work is deeply rooted in the philosophy that “we teach who we are.” Through Courage to Teach retreats, Adaptive Schools training, and Cognitive Coaching, he helps educators reconnect with their inner teacher, fostering classrooms where both students and teachers thrive as whole human beings.
Beyond his professional roles, Yo is a musician, writer, and reflective practitioner who integrates creativity and humanity into all aspects of his work.
